Welcome to Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum

Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum began as Portland Cremation Association in 1901, a venture of local businessmen who formed the Northwest’s first cremation association. The cornerstone was placed in the still-existing Sunset Chapel building on February 5, 1901. The first buildings constructed included the Chapel, Crematory and niches in the Rose Room. Construction continued on niche rooms underneath the Chapel, each named after flowers. In 1910, the newly renamed Portland Memorial began offering vaults, giving rise to a 70 year mausoleum construction project. In 1980, construction on the existing building was completed. The most recent vault wing was opened in the 1990’s and the newest niche banks were opened in 2003. Corridors were named for U.S. Presidents (eg. Jefferson, Washington) and sanctuary areas had religious themes (eg. Reverence, Peace). At its height, Portland Memorial Mausoleum is 8 stories; the property covers two and a half city blocks.
