History of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven

Established in 1926 by Lewis Tingley and family, Resthaven Memorial Park has provided a lovely, pastoral setting in which to reflect upon the lives and memories of those we hold most dear. Resthaven Memorial Park has offered comfort and remembrance to generations of families, a tradition we are proud to carry on today.

The beautifully appointed Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home is located at the front of the park and is available to all of the families we serve. Since 1932, Arch L. Heady & Sons at Resthaven funeral directors have assisted families and helped the community say goodbye to loved ones in a special way.

Many remember the high quality of service they received and the beautiful facility, but few are aware of the deeply rooted heritage and history of Arch L. Heady & Sons. Mr. Heady dedicated his life to funeral service, which began when he founded the Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at 1201 East Oak Street in 1932. Due to the compassion and respect that families received from Arch L. Heady Sr., the business experienced incredible growth, and Mr. and Mrs. Heady decided to involve their son Arch L. Heady Jr. with the daily operations. Over the next 35 years, he built the business, and in 1951, the Heady family built a second location at 3601 Taylor Boulevard. The location still serves the families of southern Louisville. In 1960, Arch L. Heady III joined the business. In 1963, the Heady family opened a third location at 8519 Preston Highway. This location expanded the care and compassion provided by Arch L. Heady & Sons to the south end of Jefferson County as well as parts of Bullitt County.

We are proudly affiliated with the Dignity Memorial® network of more than 1600 funeral, cemetery, and cremation service providers. Dignity Memorial firms are held to the highest business and service standards; providing a level of service that is 100% guaranteed, and a selection of products, services, and benefits that includes items not available elsewhere. Dignity Memorial providers offer exclusive benefits, including National Transferability of Prearranged Services, the Bereavement Travel Program, the 24-Hour Compassion Helpline® and access to an acclaimed grief management library.

Throughout years of serving the families of Louisville, the Heady family recognized the expansion of communities to the southeast, so they built their fourth location in 1966 at 4109 Taylorsville Road. When Mr. Arch L. Heady, Sr. and Arch L. Heady, Jr. both died in 1970, the founder’s grandson, Arch L. Heady III became the third generation to serve the Louisville area.

Over the next 20 years, Arch L. Heady III would expand his family’s offerings of compassionate service to 12 locations across the state of Kentucky. As the community continued to develop eastward, the Heady family followed suit by opening a location at 7410 Westport Road in 1982. In 1984, the Heady family acquired the Herbert S. Cralle Funeral Home, now known as Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, at 2428 Frankfort Avenue, which serves the families of the Crescent Hill area. Following the addition of eight new funeral homes, Arch L. Heady III’s two sons, Arch L. Heady VI and Chris Heady, joined their father to continue providing excellent service that their family had provided to the local communities.

In 1990, the Heady family saw the need to open a new location in the Lagrange area. Mr. Heady and his sons purchased the Radcliffe Funeral Home at 311 West Jefferson Street and renamed the business Arch L. Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, now located at 7710 Dixie Highway to serve families in southwest Jefferson County. In 1996, Arch L. Heady and Sons affiliated with what is now the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery services providers in North America—the Dignity Memorial® network.
