History of Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home
The story of Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home began in 1902 when C.R. Richardson opened a funeral home on Main Street in Middleport, NewYork, in his dry goods store.

Several years later, a younger man – Herman Knuebel – became a partner in the business. In the early 1930s, Richardson and Knuebel Funeral Home relocated to its present address at 38 State Street in Middleport.

The business was purchased on January 1, 1945 by Warren B. Wallace and Donald A. Heath, and the funeral home was renamed Wallace & Heath Funeral Home. A large front addition was added to the funeral home in 1960, and in 1961 a rear addition, including a flower room and preparation room, was added.

The business was purchased by Dennis G. Bates in July 1973, and the name was changed to Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home.
