Delano Mortuary contains an architectural gem, just one of many reasons Delano is a special place. We are one of the few small farming communities in America with a building designed by premier architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
It was the late 1950s. Owners Cecil and Betty LaCourse, wanted to expand their Delano Mortuary building, at that time located in downtown Delano. They purchased 10 acres of land on the edge of town and asked the famous Frank Lloyd Wright to design their new building. Two weeks later, Wright died. This would be the beginning of a long journey that wouldn’t see the building completed until 1967. Thanks to detailed drawings left by Mr. Wright, and to the dedication of the architects at Taliesin West, the integrity of Wright’s vision for this building was maintained.
Today, as a Dignity Memorial® provider, Delano Mortuary has been restored to Wright’s original design. You are invited to call for a tour of this amazing facility, most likely the last design accomplishment of this master architect.
