In 1964, Elton F. Black and Hilda L. Black founded what is now the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home, located in White Lake, Michigan. The two-story colonial facility was built in the rural area of Oakland County known as Union Lake. Elton and Hilda lived in the family quarters above the funeral home and raised two children.
The Black’s son, David, joined the family business as a licensed funeral director, changing the business’s name from Elton Black Funeral Home to Elton Black and Son Funeral Home. Eventually, David assumed the day-to-day operations of the funeral home.
In 1995 David started construction on a new funeral home located in Highland, Michigan. This spacious two-story brick colonial was completed in the fall of 1996 and is still the only funeral home located in Highland. Shortly thereafter, David became associated with the Dignity Memorial® network.
William J. Wozniak began his tenure as general manager of both locations in 2001. A 1994 graduate of
Wayne State University, Wozniak is a longtime member of the Dignity Memorial network.
Our staff has helped lead our funeral home into the next generation and we are committed to the families we have the privilege to serve.
