Military Honors Ceremony for Seven Arizona Territorial Rangers Who Paved Way for Arizona Statehood
PHOENIX, Ariz. - January 02, 2013
As Arizona marks the state’s centennial, the Phoenix community is invited to remember and honor seven Territorial Rangers who served from 1901-1909 and are buried at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Cemetery, paving the way for Arizona’s statehood. The ceremony will take place at noon on Saturday, January 12 at the Cemetery, 2300 West Van Buren in Phoenix. The event is free and open to the public. Call 602-254-8491 for more information.
The ceremony will feature military honors, music, historical notes, dignitaries and memories of those lawless years the seven Territorial Rangers served – Ross Brooks, James Moran, Neil Reuben, John Redmond, John Rhodes, James Smith and Leslie Woods. Several companies of the Arizona Rangers and the State Commander Col. Resner plan to attend the ceremony. The Cemetery will also unveil a marker honoring the Arizona Rangers.
“This ceremony is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who have served and who have sacrificed,” said David Walker, general manager of Greenwood/Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery. “We hope the families who join us for this special event gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of honoring our military and law enforcement, whether that is those currently enlisted and serving or veterans who served in the past.”
