Heights Funeral Home began in 1925, when Mrs. S.P. Waltrip and her son, Robert E. Waltrip, purchased the property at 1317 Heights Blvd. While Mrs. Waltrip used the second floor as her residence, the first floor became dedicated to serving the funeral needs of local residents. After the untimely death of Robert E. Waltrip in 1951, his son, Robert L. Waltrip, continued the family tradition of serving client families with care, compassion and dignity. Heights Funeral Home would later became the birthplace of Service Corporation International, headquartered in Houston. SCI, through its affiliates, is the largest funeral and cemetery provider in the world.
From modest beginnings, Heights Funeral Home is one of the most respected funeral homes in Houston, serving hundreds of families every year. With more than 120 years combined experience, the staff at Heights Funeral Home embodies the spirit of caring and dedication of its founding family.
