History of Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel
The Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel was built in Stockbridge, Georgia, in 1994, but the Ward Funeral Home heritage and commitment to providing exceptional funeral service began much earlier. In 1958, Horis A. Ward Sr. bought a few acres of land from his father-in-law on Fairview Road in Stockbridge, Georgia, to begin a life dream of funeral service. Fairview Memorial Gardens became a beautiful resting place for many families throughout metropolitan Atlanta area.
In 1985, Mr. Ward bought the cemetery next door, which was then called Tara Memorial Gardens. Today, Fairview Memorial Gardens sits on 60 acres of land and features beautiful pines, several marble statues, a mausoleum and a columbarium. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home Fairview Chapel is adjacent to the cemetery to make the funeral experience convenient for families and friends.
In 1959, Mr. Ward founded Horis A. Ward, Inc. Glenwood Chapel, which was built on Candler Road in Decatur, Georgia. In 1965, he built a larger funeral home one mile down the road. This provided the community with the ability to have a service that could accommodate hundreds of friends and family.
In 1987, another Horis A. Ward funeral home, known as Stone Mountain Chapel, was built in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Then in 1992, Rockdale Chapel was built in Conyers, Georgia. In 1994, Fairview Chapel was built adjacent to Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, and Glenwood Chapel Funeral Home in Decatur was sold.
In 2004, Parkway Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Forest Park, Georgia, and Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Georgia, were added to the Horis A. Ward Funeral Home family. Today, we’re proud to be a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff is able to serve families of all faiths, beliefs, cultures and backgrounds.
Horis A. Ward Sr. fulfilled a lifetime dream of being one of the finest funeral service providers in the nation before he died in February 2003. We are proud to carry on this family tradition to serve families of metro Atlanta, Clayton, Henry, Rockdale, Gwinnett and surrounding areas.
