History of Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home
The Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home is one of the area’s oldest funeral homes dating back to 1875 when the Barnes family, who owned a local woodworking and furniture shop in Franklin, established Barnes and Sons Undertaking. Through the years, they maintained a furniture store and funeral home, and in the early 1920s sold the business to the Howard family, who ran both businesses for more than 40 years. In 1937 a fire engulfed the business block where the funeral home was adjacent to the local hotel, and three buildings were destroyed, including the funeral home. Construction immediately commenced in rebuilding the funeral home and the furniture store. The funeral home facilities have been improved and updated over the years, and it is one of the finest establishments in the Franklin area.

In 1977 Lester Grummons purchased the business from Kenneth L. Bennett and is still active in the day-to-day business of the funeral home. The furniture store was discontinued several years ago.
