History of Lauterburg - Oehler Funeral Home
Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home has been serving its community since 1917. The firm was originally established by Walter Oehler. Then in 1920, Art Lauterburg, an Arlington Heights native, bought an interest in the firm.

In 1927, they opened their first funeral chapel in the Hagenbring building at Campbell and Vail Streets in downtown Arlington Heights, Ill. They remained at that location until 1937 when they moved one block west to 111 W. Campbell Street. Lauterburg & Oehler continued to operate the business until 1947 when Art Lauterburg, at the age of 53, passed away suddenly. That same year, a farm boy from central Illinois, Donald Hartman, was hired and became a fixture at the firm for 50 years. The business prospered and in 1954, Mr. Oehler named Thomas Donovan and Robert Schaer as partners.

In 1958, they decided to build a new funeral home and the firm moved to its present location at 2000 E. Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. Don Hartman managed the funeral home, and in 1975 Thomas Donovan’s nephew, Jim Murray, joined the firm. In 1982, Jim’s brother, Mike Murray, also joined the firm. Together with Ron Roth, who joined the firm in 1988, Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home continues to serve the community with the same ideals that began 90 years ago.

Walter Oehler, Art Lauterburg, Thomas Donovan, Robert Schaer and Don Hartman all began with a commitment to a high standard of service, and throughout our history we have continued to lead and innovate, while maintaining those high standards of service. Everyone at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home is proud to uphold this heritage and commitment to our community.
