History of Lawncrest Chapel

Lawncrest Chapel was originally Linn and Fulkerth Funeral Home, which was established in 1950 in downtown Redding by George Stelter. Mr. Stelter also owned a fledgling cemetery on Lawncrest Road, which formerly had been used as a rough-cut golf course. Mr. Stelter had aspirations of merging Linn and Fulkerth Funeral Home with his Lawncrest Cemetery, and in 1974, he built a large Colonial-style building adjacent to the cemetery and renamed the property Lawncrest Chapel and Memorial Park. Eventually, Lawncrest Road was widened and renamed Cypress Avenue, which is where Lawncrest is located today. In 1983, Rudy Balma purchased the business. Today, we are owned by an affiliate of Service Corporation International and we are proud to be a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
