History of Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home

Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home has a long and rich history. In 1925, Harry Kellim and George Thacker purchased 27 acres of land in Oneco, Florida (now part of Bradenton) for use as a burial ground. A crematory was added in 1945, and in 1949, after Mr. Kellim's death, his widow bought Mr. Thacker's interest. She set out to expand and improve the already highly regarded Manasota Burial Park. In 1957, Mrs. Kellim purchased a 16-acre orange grove across Oneco Road. It serves today as home to the beautiful funeral home, as well as to a number of additional cemetery gardens and our magnificent Cremation Garden.

In 1958, construction of the first mausoleums was undertaken. That same year, Mrs. Kellim traveled throughout Portugal, Spain and Italy searching for the finest marble for the new mausoleums and their gardens. She finally settled on the firm of Fedele Andreani D'fili of famed Carrara, Italy. Mr. D'fili reputedly owned the oldest and finest quarries in the country. While abroad, Mrs. Kellum also purchased several statues, fountains and an Italian crystal chandelier for use in the new mausoleums. The new structures were an immediate hit. In fact, in the years since, more than 20 mausoleums have been constructed on the grounds, which are also home to more than 20 private mausoleums.

The attractive trees, seasonal flowers, and well-kept landscaping at Manasota Memorial Park provide a beautiful and peaceful place to honor the memory of your loves ones. It serves as a resting place for many of the area's early settlers and prominent families, as well as for a number of world-renowned circus performers and several noted Baseball Hall of Fame members.
