McCracken Funeral Home was founded in August of 1950 by William "Bill" McCracken. He was a well-liked individual who cared for the families he served in Union and the surrounding towns. As an avid golfer, Mr. McCracken brought the unique look of a golf course to the surrounding landscape of the funeral home.
In 1965, Mr. McCracken added to the building by purchasing the building and property next door, which allowed him to add two additional visitation rooms. Mr. McCracken sold the business in 1986 to his partners, Reed Hagelin and Patrick Growney. Mr. Hagelin and Mr. Growney, along with their families, operated the business as a partnership until Mr. Hagelin became the sole proprietor in 1993.
Mr. Hagelin and his family operated the business until 1998, when it was purchased by an affiliate of Service Corporation International and joined the Dignity Memorial® network, North America’s largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
