McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe was founded in 1933 by Carl J. McEwen and upon his death in 1953, McEwen Funeral Home merged with Marshville Funeral Home. A partnership was formed with our former owner, George W. Davis, nephew of Carl McEwen, Tom Lee from Marshville Funeral Home and W. T. Wall.
Our facility is located in the Historical District of downtown Monroe on South Main Street in a former private residence home. This home was build in 1903 and is a true architectural beauty with many qualities that make our families find comfort. Our Colonial Chapel was built in 1953 to provide seating for 275 people with a private Family Room to be used during the service it the family so desires. We have a large visitation room to accommodate extended families and friends, or several small rooms for those private and intimate gatherings. Our lighted parking area will accommodate 105 vehicles with easy access on three different sides.
For over 75 years McEwen Funeral Home has served Monroe and Union County with dignity and pride. We strive to provide the best possible service to our families whether they choose a complete Traditional Service or a Direct Cremation. Our staff of six full time Funeral Directors and Assistants and five part time employees have over 225 years of experience and professional wisdom offering the very best possible service.
In 2007, McEwen became associated with the Dignity Group and have continued to provide the same service and compassion that our name, McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, has always been known. In a survey done by our local newspaper, The Enquirer Journal, the readers of Monroe and Union County voted McEwen Funeral Home as a Reader’s Choice Winner for Funeral Homes for the past six years. An Award we are proud to have received.
