Our roots trace back to the last century when Thomas J. McHugh established the firm. He had been employed for more than ten years by his uncle Thomas J. Turley in the establishment of Sullivan & Turley Funeral Home. Upon Mr. Turley’s death in 1942, Mr. McHugh was appointed manager of the company, known then as the Turley Funeral Home.
Serving the Irish Catholic community with distinction, the firm was located on Manchester St. for several decades. Mr. McHugh was joined in the operation of the business by his son, Kevin T. McHugh and remained active until his death in 1976. Kevin was assisted in the enterprise by Mr. Maurice April and, together, they grew the funeral home to serve families of all faiths, beliefs, cultures and backgrounds.
Soon the business had outgrown the older home and a new funeral home was constructed in 1983 at the corner of Hanover and Beech St. Kevin passed away in July 1992 and Mr. April assumed the role of manager until his retirement in 2001.
