In 1948, Larry J. Melcher set out to establish his own funeral home. With a desire to serve the community and experience in the funeral industry, Larry founded Larry J. Melcher Mortuary.
In 1972, Larry and his son Larry C. (Skip) Melcher opened a new location in East Mesa known as Larry C. Melcher Mortuary. Each funeral home operated independently until the death of Larry J. Melcher. At that time, Skip and his wife Mary took over the responsibility of both locations and renamed them Melcher Mortuaries. A crematory was added to Mission Chapel making it easier to provide additional choices to families.
In 1995, the Melcher family constructed a state-of-the-art building on the same property fully dedicated to the preparation of the deceased and cremation. The crematory was updated and new machines were installed during the summer of 2008 enabling the latest technology to be available to our families.
Skip and Mary have been actively involved in the Mesa community, serving on committees and working with various charitable organizations. They have also been influential in the formation of the State Funeral Board policy, building a legacy of community and state involvement.
Melcher Mortuaries was founded with the purpose of providing excellent service to families in the Mesa community. That tradition has been passed down from generation to generation, and the staff continues to honor the legacy of the founder by providing excellent service to the families we serve each and every day.
