Established in 1903 by Julius Caesar "A.E." Brooks as Brooks Funeral Parlor, Miller Memorial Chapel has been serving the Visalia, California, and surrounding area for more than 100 years. Upon the death of his father in 1935, Roy Brooks changed the name to Brooks Funeral Home.
At this time, the Sam Miller family was living in Santa Barbara, having left their home in Minnesota where they operated a hardware, furniture, and undertaking business. They owned a hardware store in Santa Barbara, at the same time keeping their eye out for a funeral business somewhere in California. They paid a visit to the Visalia-Woodlake area and found it very much to their liking, even the population of 15,000 was just right. It was not long until Brooks-Miller negotiations were under way.
In 1963, Sam and Myrtle, along with sons Paul and David, purchased the funeral home from Roy Brooks, and operated the family funeral business as Miller Memorial Chapel until 1996, when Paul and David sold the family chapel to Service Corporation International. Upon the sale, Paul retired. David is still an integral part of Miller Memorial Chapel as a consultant.
The Miller Memorial Chapel history is one of a high standard of service to the families we serve and to our community. Everyone at Miller Memorial Chapel is proud to uphold this heritage of commitment and service.
