In 1918, Anthony L. Molthen, Sr. opened Molthen Funeral Home in a small storefront on 10th and Milwaukee Ave. in South Milwaukee, Wis. After a few years, the business and the family outgrew their first building. They moved a few short blocks to our current location at 700 Milwaukee Ave.
Anthony had a charismatic personality that helped people entrust him with the delicate care of their loved ones. He was married and had three children. Of the three offspring, Anthony Jr. was the only one to follow in his father’s footsteps. After many years, it was time for Anthony Sr. to retire so a partnership between Anthony Jr. and his best friend, Ray Bell, was established. Ray was also married to Anthony’s older sister, so the two joined as co-owners.
Molthen-Bell was then born. Anthony Jr. had 10 children and Ray had three. One of each partner’s sons entered the family business. Soon, the name of the funeral home was changed once again to Molthen-Bell & Son. Currently the funeral home is under the management of Anthony’s second oldest daughter’s son, Corey Stephens. Corey and his staff use the same compassionate and caring manner when serving families that the original business owners showed the community in 1918.
