History of Mount Olive Cemetery
Established in 1889, Mount Olive Cemetery was first known as a Scandinavian cemetery. Our veteran section is located on the west side of the cemetery. Several veterans are buried there including a few from World War II.

One of the more distinct features of Mount Olive Cemetery is the Archway at the main cemetery entrance. We are one of a few cemeteries to have a bell in the tower that is rung as each interment procession arrives through the Archway.

The old chapel at Mount Olive was constructed in 1889 and was in service until 1960. It has been featured in several history books because of its unique structural design and age. It has also been considered for historical landmark status by the City of Chicago.

The west half of the cemetery features a Lady of Guadalupe feature in honor of Catholic families.

We, at Mount Olive, are dedicated to serving families from all ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs.
