Susanne B. Jones

Susanne (Susie) Bartlett Jones died on April 26, 2024, at age 87 surrounded by family. Susie was born on January 12, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana to her parents Robert Eugene and Lillian May (Rigdon) Bartlett. Susie graduated from School 86, Shortridge High School (1955), Purdue University with highest distinction (1959), and Robert H. McKinney School of Law summa cum laude (1976). While at Purdue, Susie was a member and president of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was elected as secretary of the student body her senior year, and was a member of mortar board and Phi Beta Kappa. Susie met her loving husband David (Dave) Paul Jones at Purdue, and the couple married on June 13, 1959. After living overseas, the couple eventually established their permanent home in Indianapolis and raised five children. When her youngest child was only two years old, Susie began law school. The consummate student, she absolutely excelled, becoming Editor in Chief of The Indiana Law Review and the recipient of the prestigious faculty award for Outstanding Student. Susie began her career as an associate attorney at Ice Miller Donadio & Ryan. She subsequently started her own practice, concentrating on family law. Her many accomplishments included: serving as a Commissioner in the Marion County Circuit Court, Master Commissioner in the Marion County Superior Court, and Judge in the Marion County Municipal Court. She was a Deputy Securities Commissioner in the Office of the Indiana Secretary of State, appointed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee, and served on the Board of Managers of the Indianapolis Bar Association. Susie also served on the Board of Trustees for DePauw University for 12 years, as well as on numerous other boards and foundations. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and was deeply faithful and committed to a number of charities. In her free time, Susie enjoyed spending summers at Lake Wawasee and winters in Naples, Florida. She was an avid golfer and world traveler and will always be fondly remembered by friends and colleagues as the “hat lady” due to her enormous collection of stylish hats. Susie is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Dave; her five children, Kimberly Rogers (Tom), Kristin Altice (Bob), Kathleen Jones, David Jones, Jr. (Sheri), and Kerry Popowics (Karl); thirteen grandchildren, Courtney Bono, Heather Saitta, and Thomas Rogers, Jr., Jack and Kathleen Altice, Dustin and Jason Thomas, Andrew and Matthew Jones, Daniel, Joseph, Nicholas, and Rachel Popowics; and six great-grandchildren. Susie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fredric (Fred) Bartlett. Thank you to the caregivers who have been by her side. There will be a private burial.
