Obituary of Robert Kenneth Branham
Robert Kenneth Branham, age 58, a beloved resident of Monroe, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024. Born on June 4, 1965, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James Harden Massie, Jr. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Lewis Hamilton. Robert was known for his diligent work ethic and love of the outdoors. Over the course of 38 years, he owned and operated Robert's Lawn and Garden Service, alongside a dedicated 29-year tenure at Sweet Briar College. Robert found solace in the simplicity of rural life, enjoying farming, operating equipment, and tending to his cattle. His passion for John Deere equipment, NASCAR races, and his cherished cat "Pepe" Le Pew were well-known among his family and friends. Robert's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, as a hardworking man who found happiness in the beauty of nature and the company of loved ones. He will be deeply missed. Robert is survived by his mother, Betty Hamilton Branham (Colonel), four siblings; Elizabeth “Ann” Hockenberry, Rosa Katherine Verdinella, Colonel Eugene “Gene” Branham, and Larry Wayne Branham (Shannon), six nephews; Connor Jamerson Branham, Cayden Wayne Branham, Carter William Martin Branham, Christopher Lee Branham, Brandon Scott Branham, Jeremy Allen Verdinella, also numerous relatives and friends. Robert is also survived by his dear cousin, Dwayne H. Branham "Buck," who was more like a brother to him. Their bond was unbreakable, filled with shared laughter, adventures, and a lifetime of memories. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 6-8:00 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 am at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Pauls Cemetery in Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the Human Society of Amherst County, 318 Shelter Ln, Amherst, VA 24521.
