Mable Delores O'Conner Matheny

Mabel Delores O’Conner Matheny, 90, of Mechanicsville, went to join her husband on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Don Matheny.
Her parents, Dewey Holeston O’Conner and Mabel Spangler O’Conner of Covington Virginia. Her Siblings Reta Dare Jordan, Ida Pauline Hocker, and Dewey H. O’Conner Jr.
Delores was devoted to the church and the ministry of her husband. She was a generous soul; her giving was unlimited and selfless. Delores was a cherished Mother and Grandmother who doted on her Great Grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, renowned for her pound cake with chocolate sauce that no covered dish fellowship should be without. Delores was a talented artist who loved painting. She also loved crafting, gardening, gospel music and backyard bird feeding. In her later years Miss Mabel became known for being a prolific birdhouse painter. Many of you may have been gifted one.
She is survived by her sons, Mike (Sheila) and Mark (Audrey); grandchildren, Ashley (Mike), Nicole (Tre), Cory (Natalie), Brandi (Jason), Adam (Jess); great-grandchildren Hutton, Emory, Brooks, Harper, Rylee, Iain; and her sister, Peggy; and a large circle of extended family.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8, Thursday, April 25 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. A funeral service will be held 2pm, Friday, April 26 at Fort Lee Baptist Church 2727 Charles City Rd. Burial to follow in Washington Memorial Park.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
