History of Purdy and Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home

The original house on West Main Street that is now the home of Purdy and Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home was built as a residence for Manne Lundstam, owner of Monroe Cash Store, in 1905.

Founded by E.E. Purdy & Sons, the first of its two local funeral homes was started in the neighboring town of Snohomish in 1914. Then in 1927 the firm purchased the Lundstam home and converted it to a residence/funeral chapel combination. The Purdy family lived upstairs and operated the funeral chapel for several years.

Lawrence Whitfield joined E.E. Purdy and managed the firm as a resident funeral director and partner. Cecil Kerr followed Mr. Whitfield as a partner and resident manager. Several remodels, additions and changes were made to the original house over the years, but the character and quality of service to the families remained the same.

In 1995, Purdy and Kerr in Monroe and Purdy & Dawson in Snohomish merged with an affiliate of Service Corporation International, and in 2004 the Snohomish operation was moved and combined with the Monroe location to become Purdy & Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home.

This relationship enables Purdy and Kerr with Dawson to be proudly affiliated with the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, ensuring that the same high standard of caring and professional service that the Purdy, Kerr, Whitfield, and Dawson families have been known for would continue to be provided to families in East Snohomish County for years to come.
