In 1965, LeRoy "Pete" Schmidt opened a new funeral home in East Peoria, Ill. Having worked for other area funeral homes, he eventually started his own business. After many successful years, he took on a partner, Gary Remmert, in 1983. Gary worked with Pete up until the time of Pete’s death in 1986.
In 1988, Gary started an expansion project to create the beautiful funeral home we see today. The project more than doubled the size of the building, creating a new spacious ambiance. The first services in the new building were held in April 1989. Since that time, Remmert Funeral Home has helped thousands of families arrange meaningful services for their loved ones.
Gary Remmert and Remmert Funeral Home became part of the Dignity Memorial network in 1997 to continue the high standards of service expected by the people of East Peoria and the surrounding area.
