In 1913, Charles C. Siferd moved his family from Wapakoneta to Lima, Ohio, establishing Charles C. Siferd Funeral Home on South Main Street. In those days, funeral homes were operated as storefront businesses, with many funerals held in private residences.
Charles’ son Theodore "Ted" W. Siferd became his father’s business partner, conducting his first funeral in 1920. Following the death of Charles in 1947, Ted continued the business alone until 1958, when he partnered with his son, Charles "Chuck" D. Siferd. They opened a modern funeral home, then called the Westwood Chapel, at 506 North Cable Road, Lima.
