History of Sunset Memorial Park
Sunset Memorial Park was opened in 1937 by Mini Edwards and her husband. The construction of the 32-acre park was a great accomplishment for the Edwards family.

Henry and Ethel Rees purchased the park in the early 1940s. After running the park for 15 years, Henry had a stroke in 1955. He and his wife moved to Oceanside, California and sold the park to his daughter Betty, who had worked in the office for many years.

Betty married Bob Harney and took over the establishment. Bob and Betty Harney raised a family of six in a house located on the property, which they also used as the cemetery office.

Bob and Betty also had a horse ranch on the cemetery property; they were known around the world for raising beautiful Appaloosa horses. After raising their children and selling the cemetery, they retired in the Hagerman Valley.

Bob and Betty Harney set a high standard at Sunset Memorial Park, making each family they met their own family. They were committed to giving each family a meaningful farewell. Everyone at Sunset Memorial Park is proud to uphold this heritage and commitment to our community and the families we serve.
