In 1917, Swan Funeral Homes began as C. Carl Swan Funeral Home in Guilford, Connecticut. C. Carl Swan and Stillman Swan eventually relocated to Madison in 1934. In 1954, they relocated again, purchasing the current location in Madison.
The three sons, Richard, Stillman Jr., and Carl opened Swan Funeral Home of Old Saybrook in May 1963 and Swan Funeral Home of Clinton in 1974. The final addition was made in 1995, River View Crematory, which was added to provide another way to better serve our families. We still operate the three locations on the Connecticut shoreline along with our crematory.
Swan Funeral Home continues the commitment to serve families with compassion, integrity, respect and service excellence, as C. Carl Swan promised in 1917. In 1998, Swan Funeral Home changed for the benefit of the families we serve. Swan Funeral Home joined the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America. We are proud members of this network, enabling us to keep our promise to the families of Madison, Clinton, Old Saybrook and the surrounding areas.
