History of Walters Funeral Home

Rose Hill Burial Park is one of the area’s largest and most distinguished cemeteries. Although it was officially founded in the 1920s, there are areas in the park where burials took place even earlier. The name Rose Hill was derived from the landscaping and nursery service originally located on the property. Rose Hill was an early leader in the industry, becoming one of the first cemeteries to set up an endowment care fund, ensuring that its grounds would be forever attended to even if no more burials took place.

The largest private cemetery in Akron, many of Akron’s most prominent citizens have been laid to rest on its serene acres. Many of Akron’s industrial and religious leaders and even a Medal of Honor recipient can be found memorialized on the grounds. As the park continued to grow, sections were added to provide families of certain organizations and religions areas that highlight their service or faith. Today, Rose Hill has sections dedicated to those who served in the military, members of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star, and people of the Jewish faith.

In the early 1980s, Rose Hill began offering its beautiful mausoleum complex. In the early 1990s, Rose Hill Burial Park became the only cemetery in the area to provide a funeral home in conjunction with a cemetery. Since that time, the funeral home has become a leader in both the industry and the community. The Walters name is synonymous with respect and dignity, which were established as our founding principles.
