In December 1947, Clayton H. Wood purchased the funeral home business from Louis Mead. Originally located at 48 Paine Street in East Aurora, the business was moved to the historic Stockwell house at 784 Main Street in East Aurora in June 1950. Over the next several years, additions were made to the original structure in order to increase public space for the growing funeral home business. In November 1960 Mr. Wood’s son, Thomas E. Wood, joined his father as a licensed funeral director. In June 1976 the funeral home was incorporated to include Clayton, Evelyn and Thomas Wood as officers. Following the death of Clayton in 1978, Thomas became owner and manager of Wood Funeral Home.Thomas married Elizabeth Moore in 1981, at which time Elizabeth joined the business as part owner and began assisting her husband in the operation of the business. From 1995 to 1996, the funeral home underwent a major renovation to double the public space and to make the building a fully accessible facility for those with physical limitations.
