Barry was born in Denver, Colorado to Jettie and Bruce Leisure on February 18, 1942. He was raised by Jettie & Dr. Fred Lowrie in Palos Verdes, California until he married Janine Parsons on October 22, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Beginning in 1961, Barry & Janine started their family. In 1981 at ages 39, they moved their family to Westminster Colorado for the duration of their life together.
Barry’s professional baking career spanned from DiCarlo’s Bakery in San Pedro, California (Foreman) to Wonder Bread (Production Superintendent) & Oroweat (Production & Shipping Supervisor) in Denver, Colorado, Girard’s French Bakery in Louisville, Colorado (Production Superintendent) and Pour’ La France in Longmont, Colorado (Production Superintendent). Alongside his baking career, Barry spent his free time as a young man and adult as an Eagle Scout and hanging out at the beach, Assistant Scout Master, Soccer Coach and Foster Parent (for 53 years), and he loved libations with family and friends. At age 45, he suffered a debilitating stroke, which meant, much to his chagrin, the libations must end. After recovering, he lived the remainder of his life helping care for hundreds of foster children, raising his 3 youngest children, helping raise 2 of his youngest grandchildren and participating in his 16 grandchildren’s lives from driving all over town to baseball, football, soccer and basketball games, as well as karate events; to getting many of them to and from school on a daily basis. In addition, he also spent countless hours on the road helping foster children visit with birth parents and facilitating their care with Jefferson County Social Services. Toward the end of his life, he was blessed with 4 great grandchildren whom he spent as much time with as he was able.
Barry was preceded in death by his Mother-in-Law Beverly Lobe (Crotty), Father-in-Law Easton (East) Parsons, mother Jettie Lowrie (Smith) & Step-Father Dr. Fred Lowrie, his father Bruce Leisure & Step-Mother Helen Leisure.
