Theresa Casey was the eldest child of nine children of Alice Roy (Roi) and Albert Casey. She was born on June the fifteenth nineteen hundred and twenty-two in Miguasha, Quebec. The ancestors of Theresa Lazette (nee Casey) were primarily of Irish and French descent. Her French ancestors, the Roi family (Le Roi), arrived in Quebec City from France in the 1700’s. Several of the family members gradually migrated to Nouvelle, Quebec. Her Irish ancestors, including the Caseys, the Connors, the Keays and the Kennys, immigrated from various locations in Ireland such as Tipperary and County Kildare. Many settled in Miguasha, Quebec, a small village near Nouvelle, on the Baie de Chaleur. Some of Theresa’s Irish relatives arrived in Acadia and others arrived in Quebec City. The Acadia locations included East Point, PEI, and Port Royal, now known as Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. The French and Irish members of these two communities often intermarried. Theresa’s mother, Alice Roi (Roy) met and married Theresa’s father, Albert Casey on August 17th, 1921 in Nouvelle, Quebec. There is one main road in Miguasha, bordering the Baie de Chaleur, where many of the Casey relatives lived. Theresa’s parents and grandparents lived in a small structure on their land, while they built a large two story clapboard home. There was a summer kitchen, where most of the day was spent during nice weather when the chores were done. In colder weather, the family ate in the formal dining room.There was also a music room with an organ and a phonograph player and a sitting room. Later, a wraparound verandah was added to the home where chairs and a rocker were available to be enjoyed all summer long. Upstairs there were 4 bedrooms and a sewing room situated over the Summer kitchen. It also had a small cot where Theresa’s mother would nap in the afternoon. There was a root cellar under the Summer kitchen where the family stored their produce. In the backyard there were cherry trees, black and red currant bushes, as well as gooseberries. The family had a large vegetable garden containing potatoes, carrots, beans, radishes,cabbage and strawberries. Friends: Theresa had relatives, cousins and friends with whom she had a life-long connection. She corresponded with Grace Hill, her aunt who lived in the U.S.A, for more than 70 years. Theresa and Garnet were witnesses at the marriage of Patricia Flowers and her husband and they remained friends for many years. Some of her other dear friends were Theresa Villeneuve, Betty Lisage, Grace Froats, Mr. and Mrs. Martineau and Andre, and Jill and Wilburn St. John.
