About

McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown provides funeral and memorial services in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Our dedicated team works hard to create a fitting tribute that reflects the life of the person being celebrated.

Planning ahead

We also work with families to plan funeral services in advance, so your wishes are known and your family members are protected from additional expenses and aren’t required have to make decisions regarding arrangements at the time of a loved one's death. Whether you desire a traditional funeral with visitation or a cremation with an upbeat memorial service, we can make it possible.

We honor veterans

McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown understands the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Community involvement

Our staff at McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown actively supports the Kansas City community throughout the year, volunteering at community kitchens and staying active in service clubs and neighborhood associations. In addition, we help area churches with their holiday observances and festivals, and host families in December who attend our annual 'Blessing of the Angels' service.

Trusted provider

We are a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network. As North America's largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services, the Dignity Memorial brand assures each family receives quality, value, caring service and exceptional customer satisfaction.

History

McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown is a combination of 3 firms. The Eylar Brothers Undertakers was initially established in Kansas City in 1899. Later in the early 1920s, the Mellody-Joyce-Taylor firm was established and became known as Mellody & McGilley in 1930, when James P. McGilley became a member of the firm.

In 1945, Mr. McGilley purchased the Eylar Brothers Funeral Home and combined the companies at a facility located at Linwood Boulevard and Woodland Street. After combining, Mellody-McGilley-Eylar bought the company of Quirk and Tobin Undertakers at Linwood Boulevard and Main Street in 1954.

Three years later, in 1957, Quirk and Tobin Funeral Home was renamed Mellody-McGilley-Eylar Funeral Home. In 1959, Mellody-McGilley-Eylar pioneered the funeral planning process and began offering financing options. In 1970, the funeral home at Linwood and Woodland was closed, and the Linwood and Main location became known as the McGilley Midtown Chapel.

Today, operating as McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown, we continue to provide cost-saving options to the families we serve. Carrying on this legacy, the 4th generation of the McGilley family, Mark and Patrick, still serves the Kansas City community.
