Jay Elliot Fishman, age 72, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on April 9, 2020 after a long illness. He was born on February 12, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from George Washington High School in June of 1966 and shortly after enlisted into the United States Army Reserves. Jay served 6 years in the Reserves and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on February 23, 1973. He married Roberta Uliano in July of 1972. They had 3 children, Marc, Susan and Stephen. Jay became an auto mechanic because of his love for cars, especially "muscle" cars. He spent most of his life as a mechanic and was always willing to help anyone with their car troubles. He was also great at remodeling homes and fixing just about anything he put his hands on. Jay was always the life of the party and just had to make everyone laugh. He also had a secret talent; he loved to sing and had one of the best voices. Jay moved to Oviedo, Florida in February of 1991 with his wife and children to be closer to his parents who had made the move themselves several years prior. He continued working as a mechanic, doing what he loved. Jay and his wife divorced after 25 years of marriage but always remained friends and always kept a close family relationship. As his children grew into young adults, Jay was always there to lend a helping hand, fix a broken-down vehicle, provide a roof over their heads as they navigated through their "terrible-twenties" and would give his last penny if they or anyone was in need; even if he didn't have much for himself. He miraculously survived a major motorcycle accident in 2005 but sustained injuries that led him to no longer being able to do the job he loved most; work on cars. As time went on Jay developed COPD and was dependent on oxygen to help him through his daily tasks. He underwent an aortic valve replacement in 2017 but due to his COPD was not able to remove 2 additional abdominal aortic aneurysms that continued to grow. Jay spent the final 2 years of his life in the comfort of his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tami's home where he enjoyed watching his grandson, Jeremy, play and grow. He loved his grandchildren and said it brought him so much joy to see their smiling faces and listen to their laughter. He was so proud of his first and oldest grandson, Cody, who works on cars for a living, as well. He enjoyed talking to Cody about his latest and greatest project and wished he was well enough to work along-side him. Jay finally succumbed to his aneurysms in the home he shared with his son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Tami, just after sharing his last conversation with his 5 year old grandson, Jeremy. He had accepted his fate and looked forward to the day he would be reunited with his parents again in Heaven. His final wish was granted as he passed onto his next journey of life, at 5:30pm, Thursday, April 9, 2020.
Jay is survived by his brother, Alan Fishman, and his sister Sheri (Dr. Robert) Rosenberg, his 3 children, Marc Fishman, Susan (David) Clark, and Stephen (Tami) Fishman, his 3 nieces, Leia (Joel) Neft, Miriam (Dr. Akiva) Daum, and Randee Fishman, his 5 grandchildren, Cody Adams, Caseay Dreby, Kaitlyn Clark, Jeremy Fishman and Kourtney Clark, and his 5 great-nephews, Asher, Eitan and Dov Daum, and Noam and Shai Neft. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Ethel Fishman and his sister-in-law, Faye Fishman.
A service has not yet been planned but will commence when his family and friends can be together again to share in a beautiful tribute of his life.
