Harriet E. Stimpson

Harriet (Grove) Stimpson passed from this earth returning to her heavenly Father surrounded by family members at her home on October 21, 2018 after a short illness. She was just 10 days short of her 95th Birthday!

Harriet started her life on a cold, snowy, Halloween night in 1923 on a farm in eastern Pennsylvania. She was the fifth child in a large family of 9 children, Ellen, Paul, Lloyd, Monroe, Kenneth, Kermit (who all have preceded her in death) Homer and Helen. Harriet always enjoyed the rough and tumble of the outdoors with her brothers which is a good thing since she had so many! Harriet always said she would much rather be doing farm chores rather than the household chores.

Harriet first met her husband Lindy Stimpson when he was selling Bibles door to door. Harriet graduated from High School and was lucky enough to enroll in college where she met this same hardworking man driving a taxi and working his way through seminary. One bible verse led to another and they were married in June 1943. They were married for 65 years when Lindy passed in 2009.

Harriet was surrounded once again by boys for She and Lindy had four, Jim, Jerry, Derrell and Dan (still living), and they settled in the woods of Maryland, building their new home and helping to build an entire community. Through her love, determination and tenacity she helped create a very busy, bustling life for her family. She gave her boys the room to grow and they had many adventures exploring the woods, biking, getting into trouble on occasion and spending their years at Spencerville Junior Academy which Harriet and Lindy worked hard to help build. Harriet drove the school bus to pay for the tuition costs of her sons’ education which was a top priority. Harriet was very community minded and was always busy helping others. She was also the newly formed church Treasurer assisting in the construction of the new church.

In later years with two of their boys grown they moved their youngest boys to Orlando Florida and she continued her spirit of community and was actively involved in the Apopka Seventh Day Adventist Church. Harriet also worked her way up in the Florida Hospital System and ended her career of over 30 years? as the Director of Patient Business.

Harriet loved to travel with her family and to family all over North America including Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. Later she had adventures in Australia, New Zealand, China and Puerto Rico.

Harriet was much loved by her 9 grandchildren, Christy, Jeff, Holly, Heather, Dusty, Cassie, Carley, Steffanie and Justin, 15 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. She spent many days at the beach & Disney World and many an hour rocking babies to sleep!
