Isabelle O’Connor, of Assiniboia, SK was lovingly surrounded by family as she departed this life at the Assiniboia Union Hospital on March 26, 2018. She was the second youngest of eight, born January 15, 1918 to Eliza and William Bayley. They resided on the family farm eight miles southwest of Assiniboia. Isabelle did the majority of her schooling at Willow Beach School, finishing her last two years in Assiniboia. Upon graduating, she moved to Moose Jaw for work.
As a young miss, she enjoyed playing ball and this is how she met Chuck (Urban) O’Connor. They began dating after her return to Assiniboia and were wed on September 4, 1939. As the years went by, they had four daughters: Maureen, Doreen, Patricia and Cherie. Isabelle was employed at Simpson Sears and managed the catalogue outlet for years. She enjoyed being a member of the Kinette’s Club, supported the town’s bingo fundraisers, loved to engage in a variety of card games, sewed and canned Chuck’s garden produce.
After Chuck’s passing and her retirement, she enjoyed travelling with some of her widowed sisters. Later in the eighties, she lived in Red Deer and Calgary, returning to her “home town” Assiniboia in 1998, where she resided at Eastside Court until her passing. Isabelle was an enthusiastic follower and fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays and all curling competitions!
She was thrilled to celebrate her recent 100th birthday, outlasting many whom were present that evening. Her family was, hands down, her greatest joy in life. She always said how blessed she felt for each of them. We were blessed to have her and mourn the loss of our marvelous matriarch. Memories of her wit, wisdom and delightful ditties will always be treasured.
Isabelle was predeceased by her loving husband, Chuck; infant daughter Patricia; daughter Doreen Garrecht; sons-in-law Ed Beauchesne and Brad Prentice; grandson Jerad Prentice and her siblings: Harold Bayley, Barney Bayley; Mabel Campbell, Rena Stephens, Mary Lynds and Lil Gordon.
Isabelle is survived by those missing her: daughters Maureen Beauchesne (Assiniboia, SK) and Cherie Prentice (Cochrane, AB); son-in-law Al Garrecht (Creston, BC); younger brother Kelly Bayley (Calgary, AB); 15 grandchildren; a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at Ross Funeral Chapel Tuesday Evening, April 3, 2018 and Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Dennis Remot celebrant. Granddaughters Delee Beaton, Adora Rasmussen, Leann Mair and Kenda Watt placed the Pall. Prayer readers were Al Garrecht and great-granddaughter Ashley Karst. A tribute was presented by granddaughters Marcy Van Koughnett and Gay Lewis. Tess Corman, great-granddaughter, presented the slide show. Music Ministry was provided by Carol Marit and Denise Broda. Pallbearers were grandsons: Darcy and Rocky Beauchesne, Neil Prentice and great-grandsons Andrew Beaton, Troy Lewis and Justin Corman. After the family laid Isabelle to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, fellowship and lunch was served by the Parish. Donations in memory of Isabelle may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Lung Association of Saskatchewan.
“Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I’ll miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin, until the day comes we’re together again.”
