Jewell served as her church representative to the Brazos Association Executive Committee (United Church of Christ). She also represented her church at the South Central Conference meetings.
Jewell’s mother died when Jewell was a child, but before her death, she instilled in her daughter a love for sewing and needle work that stayed with Jewell throughout her life. She loved to sew, read, and learn new things.
Jewell developed a love for the world around her as a child. She enjoyed the beauty in nature as well as the oddities and the not so beautiful. She also loved cats and could not resist a cute furry face. She longed to paint what she saw, but did not have the talent for that. Fortunately, she discovered photography and tried to capture what intrigued her on film. Jewell enjoyed going to the beach with her husband Brehon for long weekends and also loved to travel. She went to many scenic and historic places after retirement.
