Walter Earl Lowry Jr. was born to Walter Earl Lowry and Maude Acree Lowry on May 11, 1926, in Cushing, Oklahoma. Walter or Bud as he was more affectionately known, attended school in numerous Oklahoma towns, before settling down in Monahans, Texas. Bud graduated from Monahans High School, in 1944 and was the Class President. Bud was academically gifted and earned a scholarship for his academics to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Bud had other aspirations and elected to take an active role in the United States Naval Air Corp. The goal was to fly and since all the pilot slots were taken, Bud chose to become a radio operator in a TBM Avenger. Initially Bud, was stationed in Florida on his way to a Pacific aircraft carrier. The war ended prior to Bud’s final deployment and he was honorably discharged in 1946. Bud was always very proud of his time spent in the service.
Bud, attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he made the Dean’s List. Bud graduated in 1951, with a BBA degree. Thanks to Bud’s academic achievements, he was offered a position with General Motors Acceptance Corporation. His career at GMAC flourished until Bud’s retirement 38 years later.
Bud is survived by his wife, Edna Lowry of 41 years, two daughters, Kristi Lowry, Tari Fudge, two sons, Walter Earl Lowry III and Larry Gentry.
Bud is also survived by numerous grandchildren including, Kirstin Otey Lewis, Chris and Kelli Sanders, Ashley and Daniel Coats, Landis Frick and Dylan Roberts (fiancé), Dustin Frick and Lindsay Lowry. Great grandchildren include Ryan Raynes, Ava Raynes, Carter Raynes, Trajan Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Cayden Sanders, Kamryn Sanders and Kinsley Sanders.
Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, served in the Lions Club of Marble Falls for over 25 years and was actively engaged with many civic functions.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls at 2pm, Saturday, July 14, 2018. A separate military funeral will be held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
