Barton Lee Frye died on March 11, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 2, 1947, in Athens, Georgia, to Agnes Henderson Frye and Jennings Bryan Frye. He is survived by his wife Marness "Missy" Bacot Frye, sister Nona Frye Spence and her husband Hartie, brother Lloyd Henderson Frye and his wife Debby, sister-in-law Wanda Berry Frye, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Jennings Bryan "J.B." Frye, and his beloved Labrador Retrievers, Falstaff, Hunter, Lester Lee, and Zoe. Barton was a graduate of University High School, LSU, and LSU Dental School. He earned an athletic scholarship to play football at LSU where he lettered for 3 years. He played in the 1968 Sugar Bowl and the inaugural Peach Bowl in 1969. During Barton's senior year, he was selected by his team mates as the 1968 Permanent Team Captain. Barton was inducted into the University High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2019, the All State Sugar Bowl recognized Barton as one of the 150 "Stars of the Sugar Bowl" for his game saving-tackle in the final seconds in the LSU win over Wyoming. Barton practiced dentistry for 30 years. After retiring he enjoyed attending athletic events at LSU, eating lunch with friends, and working on his property in Saint Francisville. He especially loved watching the sun rise and set while spending time at the beach. Barton will be dearly missed by his friends, family, former LSU football teammates, and his Labrador Retriever, Henry McClendon, "Mac." Pallbearers will be James Lester, Del Walker, Freddie Michaelson, Larry McCaskill, David Strange, and Kelly Ward. Visitation will be at the Saint Francisville United Methodist Church, 9856 Royal Street, Saint Francisville, LA, from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022.
