Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Fay Negrete Oviedo, age 105, passed away at home, quietly, gently, peacefully, and as beautiful as ever. She was born on May 26, 1915 in Penjamo, Guanajuato Mexico to parents Carmen and Anita Negrete and came to Baytown in the early 1920s. It was while living in the Humble Oil “Campos” as a teenager that she met the love of her life, Paul Oviedo. They married in 1935 and celebrated an incredible 75 years of marriage. Fay worked for GCCISD for a short time but dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. She and Paul were lifelong Baytonians, residents of “La Isla”, and faithful parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Together, they created a home that was home to all of us – a place where you were welcomed, cherished, loved, and fed. Their home was a refuge where we shared endless love and laughter, celebrations, holidays, meals, hugs, and tears. She lived a life of simplicity, grace, and great faith. She loved reading, being outdoors and spending time with her family. We will always remember her passion for gardening, her sweet tea, homemade tortillas, rice, and beans but more importantly we will forever be impacted by her joy, her love of family, her strength, and her faith.
Fay is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Oviedo, son Richard Oviedo, and granddaughter Valerie Oviedo Sandoval. She is survived by her sister, Mary Negrete Garcia, her brother-in-law Rudy Oviedo, her children, Artie (Irma) Oviedo, Lupe Oviedo, Christine Oviedo Renteria, Joanne (Roy) Sistos, Robert (Sylvia) Oviedo, and Carolyne (Ralph) Ugalde. Her grandchildren are Kay (Greg) Capers, Mike Oviedo, Glenn (Reyna) Oviedo, Will (Melody) Oviedo, Valerie (deceased) (Gilbert) Sandoval, Anita Faye Renteria (Kasi Greathouse), Tina (Gilbert) Garcia, Leasa (Fred) Lopez, Jodi (Jesse) Rodriguez, Roy (Kristine) Sistos, Vangi Chavira, Carmen (Tommy) Gill, Yvette Oviedo, Eric Oviedo, Jennifer (Andrew) Lucio, Ryan Ugalde, Anthony (Andria) Ugalde, and Allyson (Chris) Radney. In addition, she leaves 40 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to her dedicated caregivers Ana Reyes and Mari Pineda and her nephew Tommy Oviedo who visited her each morning for coffee.
