Donald Hefner Sr. passed away on January 19, 2020. He was the devoted husband of Myra Lou Hefner (Frey); loving father of Donald Jr., Ronald, and David; dear father-in-law of Teresa, Kimberly, and Laura; and cherished Pop-pop to Sarah (husband Tommy), Chase, Meghann, John, and Garrett.
Donald Hefner Sr. was the son of J. Henry and Elizabeth Hefner. He was born in Baltimore, MD and lived the last 50 years of his life in Fallston. He was a proud graduate of Calvert Hall High School and Loyola College. After college, he worked for Maryland National Bank as a branch manager from 1964-1978, serving primarily at the Highlandtown branch.
In 1974, he and his wife, Myra, bought a 7-11 franchise in Fallston and operated it for 45 years until 2019. During part of that time, Don served as the President of the Baltimore 7-11 Franchise Owners Association and also served as a National Officer. As an owner of 7-11, he made countless friends and acquaintances that he maintained until the end of his life.
He was active within St. Mark’s Fallston parish. He was a member of the Parish Council and coordinated many church fundraisers. He was also very involved in the early years of what would become the Fallston Recreation Council and coached all three of his sons in several sports. Additionally, he served on the Harford County Tax Appeals Board.
He was an avid sports fan, closely following the Colts, Ravens, Orioles and Terps. He and his wife Myra traveled the world together to places including Ireland, Hawaii, Germany, Mexico, and England. He enjoyed golfing and going “down the ocean” to Ocean City Maryland. In later years, he learned to enjoy watching nature on the pond in the backyard of his property. He enjoyed wildlife such as Canadian geese and deer.
His greatest love in life was his grandchildren, spending countless hours attending sporting events, school events, ballets, plays and many graduations. He and his zest for life will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
