Celebró 50 años de casado con Sylvia Nieves Rivera en junio de 2019.
Un jibaro nacido el 25 de enero 1947 en el campo de Tierras Nueva en Manatí PR.
Era hombre de familia, padre de seis hijos: Sylvia N. Caballero, Jaime O. Caballero, Jesús M. Caballero, Javier R. Caballero, Saida M. Caballero, Juan P. Caballero; y abuelo de Jaime L. Caballero, Sofía W. Caballero, y Lucy W. Caballero. Vivió su vida lleno de amor y fe.
Aplicaba sus habilidades de racionamiento a resolver problemas, explorar el mundo a su alrededor y tener nuevas experiencias. Estudió ingeniería civil en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Mayagüez (clase 1970) y una maestría de ingeniería estructural en la Universidad de Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Fue miembro vitalicio de la sociedad honoraria de ingeniería Tau Beta Pi.
Como ingeniero, se desempeñó en la división de Departamento de Recursos Naturales de Puerto Rico, y colaboró en el diseño de la canalización del Río Humacao. Usó sus destrezas como ingeniero para diseñar la casa de su hermano Francisco Caballero y las capillas de los barrios Guayaney y la Laguna en Manatí.
Amaba las matemáticas, historia, leer, la música folclórica y un buen chiste. Era un buen navegador, un GPS antes de que se inventara la tecnología, tomando la ruta menos aventurada durante viajes de carro. Era activo en su comunidad de Manatí: participó en la iglesia, en el centro cultural y en la cooperativa.
En 1988, tomó unas de las aventuras mas grande de su vida y se fue de su querido Puerto Rico y se mudó con toda su familia a Brandon Florida, donde también se envolvió en la comunidad de la iglesia. Colaboró en el desarrollo de la comunidad hispana en la iglesia la Natividad con el Monseñor Lara. A nivel de la diócesis de St. Petersburg ayudó en el desarrollo del Plan Pastoral. También, fue miembro activo en el Capítulo de Ingenieros de Puerto Rico en la Florida, sirviendo como vocal en la directiva y luego representante en el Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico.

Jaime Caballero Alvarez was a gentleman squared, in name and personality.
He celebrated 50 years of marriage to Sylvia Nieves Rivera in June 2019.
He was a jibaro, born January 25, 1947 in the countryside of Manatí, PR.
He was a family man, father of six children: Sylvia N. Caballero, Jaime O. Caballero, Jesús M. Caballero, Javier R. Caballero, Saida M. Caballero, Juan P. Caballero; and grandfather to Jaime L. Caballero, Sofía W. Caballero, and Lucy W. Caballero.
He lived his life full of love and faith. He applied his analytical skills to problem solving, exploring the world around him and gaining new experiences. He studied civil engineering at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez (class of ‘70) and earned a masters degree in structural engineering at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. He was a lifelong member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. As an Engineer, he realized most of his professional career in the Department of Natural Resources, and collaborated in the design of the Humacao River canalization. He used his skills to design the house of his brother, Francisco Caballero, and the chapels in the barrios of Guayaney and La Laguna in Manatí.
He loved math, history, reading folkloric music and a good joke. He was a one-man GPS of his own, often taking the less traveled routes during road trips. He was a vital member of the community of Manatí: he was active in the church, he was a patron of the cultural center and a member of the cooperative.
In 1988, he took his next adventure and left behind his beloved Puerto Rico and moved his family to Brandon Florida, where he also became active in the church community. He worked along with Monsignor Laramie establish the Hispanic Community at Nativity Catholic Church. At the diocese level, he helped develop the Pastoral Plan for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. He was also a member of the Florida Chapter of Puertorrican Engineers, serving as a member of the directing committee and later representative of the College of Engineering and Agriculture of Puerto Rico.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Hillsboro Memorial, 2323 W Brandon Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be held in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens.
