MERTENS, Marlo H., of Valrico entered into rest July 16, 2014. He was self -employed in steel erection construction. As a member of The Safari Club International, he enjoyed big game hunting and had traveled to Africa, Alaska and out west to hone his skills. He was the consummate “giver” with a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Mertens; mother, Minnie Mertens; sons, Stanley and Gary Mertens; sisters, Catherine and Geraldean; and brother, Wendall. He is survived by three daughters, Mona Rhoads (Richard), Tonya Sewell (Randy), Allison Meek (Jeff); five brothers, Alfred, Harlan, Bernell, Marvin and Royce Mertens; four sisters, Maxine Mannany, Lola Scott, Leonna Leggett and Lois Dowdele; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
