Mitch was born in Sealston, VA on March 23, 1923 to Richard White and Tulip Allen. He was the youngest of 12 siblings. After attending DC public schools, he joined the military, served in World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Eva Mae Hall in January of 1948, a union that lasted until her passing in 2002.
Mitch worked at the Library of Congress, Defense Documentation Center, and Defense Technical Information Center before retiring in March of 1990 after a total of 49 years of government service.
Mitch had a very easy-going personality. He loved painting in acrylics, doing home improvement projects, shooting home movies, and taking photographs. He enjoyed playing ping-pong and participated in softball and bowling leagues. He was a huge Redskins and Nationals fan and enjoyed watching baseball and basketball games, often into the wee hours of the morning. He loved to sing and would often spontaneously break out in song. He loved wearing nice suits and driving nice cars emblazoned with his personalized license plate, “ME4U”.
As he joins his wife Eva and son Tyrone in Heaven, he leaves to mourn his loss, his children Donald (Lou), Mitchell II (Tee), Tony (Karen), Jackie (Punchie), Michelle (Dan), and Ricky (Karen), along with 15 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Rest well, Dad. We love you dearly!
