It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary. Lorrie is survived by her son Bob (Heidi) and daughter Linda (Dean). She was a loving grandma to Garrett, Dayna and Angeline and close sister to Erma Wesanko (John) and Sheila Fletcher (Wally). She was predeceased by husband Jack, mother Marjory and father Cliff Simpson.
Lorrie lived an active and adventure filled life from the ski hills of her youth to the sailing years in the Caribbean to her last major adventure in 2017 through the Panama Canal and beyond. Through her working years she was always busy adding many interesting personal projects on the side while still making time to knit and sew. Becoming an entrepreneur after her formal retirement from banking, she was a successful interior design and supply specialist.
Born in North Bay, Lorrie later moved to Deep River and spent summers at the Hunt family lake property near Huntsville. After college, she travelled to Jamaica where she met and married Jack, while sailing, working and even creating a cookbook.
After returning to Canada, Lorrie was very much at home in Calgary but also embraced her years in Turner Valley, Elkford and Creston. Like Jack, Lorrie was a lady strong in faith with a great sense of community duty and an avid fan of her grandkids.
A Memorial Service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Irene Pfeiffer C.M. officiating. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will be held at 4:15 p.m. in the Foothills Cemetery at Turner Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (www.jdrf.ca).
