It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the Louanne Gradishar on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 86 years.

Louanne joined her husband Frank who passed away in 2015 after 62 years of marriage. Louanne and Frank were loving parents to 3 children, blessed with 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Louanne was a very proud 3rd generation Calgarian and took great joy in sharing her stories and family legacy as a member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers Association. Louanne was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a stay at home Mom and later worked at variety of part time jobs with various organizations. Louanne gave freely of her time by volunteering for nearly 20 years at both Calgary General Hospital and later at the Peter Lougheed Centre.

Throughout their marriage, Louanne and Frank had a very close group of friends that they spent many happy vacations with. Whether it was camping, travelling throughout the United States or participating in horseshoe tournaments, they were always happiest spending time with the group lovingly known as “the gang”.

Louanne is survived by her two daughters Sharon Ritchie (Alan) and Jo-Anne Taylor and son Bill Gradishar (Verna). She was the beloved grandmother to Nicole, Scott, Joey Jennifer, Mitchell, Ryan, James and Emma. She took great joy in her 9 great grandchildren. Louanne is also survived by her two sisters Judy Lindsay and Paddy (Benny) Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews. Louanne was predeceased by her husband Frank, her brother John Ferguson and grandson Billy.

We want to send our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bethany Harvest Hills for the loving care they provided Louanne during her time in the centre. Your thoughtfulness and devotion to her wellbeing will forever be remembered.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private family gathering will be held to honour Louanne.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to one of the following organizations: Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary at or Bethany Care Foundation at

Sharon, Jo-Jo and Bill, Your Mom was a kind hearted lady through and through. One of my fondest memories of her is when she visited Rob and my Son James when he was in intensive care at the Foothills hospital. She had so much love in her heart for everyone and the three of you will be forever blessed by her grace. May she now rest in piece. God bless all of you, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren at this sad time. Bonny, Rob and James Lackey

Our heartfelt condolences to you all. I will never forget the kindness and welcome given to me and my family by Louanne. She had a joyful energy and it was always a pleasure to be in her company at family events.

At one of Tristan's birthday parties, there was a superhero theme. I asked Frank who his favourite superhero was, and without missing a beat, he gestured to Louanne sitting next him. She was no doubt a superhero to all of you, and Louanne has been greatly missed throughout her battle with dementia. I hope it is some comfort to know that she is not gone, only gone from sight for a while.

All our love and big hugs,
Tammy, Megan and Erin

Dear Sharon, Jo-Anne and Bill
I was so sorry to read of your Mom’s passing. Many years ago, when I was the Business Manager at Van Horne High School, we became friends when she joined our staff. She was a pleasant, thoughtful, caring person, such a pleasure to work with. She was so proud of you and your accomplishments. Her love of family and friends was one of her greatest gifts to us all. Hopefully, you will be comforted knowing that she will be sadly missed by her many friends. My husband, Elliott, and I send our sincerest condolences to you and your families at this sad time. Geri
