Herb was a caring, generous and well respected man with a great sense of humour. He was a devoted family man and a devout Catholic, dedicated especially to the COR youth group, choir and ministry. In his younger years as a pitcher for the Galt Terriers, he was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He developed a passion for swimming in his 50's, and as a Masters swimmer was awarded several medals. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Susan (Peter), Sharon (Kent), Shelley, Jenny (John), Julie (Brad), Jayne (Steve), and Andrew, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and counting. Herb was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Edith Simmers (nee Dinsmore), sister Mae Mertz, brothers Harold and Michael, and Roy and Loretta Osborn.
