Naomi Ruth Seymour

Naomi Ruth Cash-Seymour died unexpectedly in Denver, Colorado on July 19, 2019 at the age of 81. She is the matriarch of a large, loving family and will be sorely missed by all who were touched by her.

Naomi is survived by her husband, Robert Seymour; children, Tom Seymour (Sherri), Vicki Seymour-Roth (Steve), Sandy Seymour-Lenthall (Mark) and Melinda Seymour-Cosh (Doug); sister, Fleta Gilliland, all of Denver. Naomi has seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Ila Cash, and two daughters, infant Brenda, and Valerie Rose Seymour-Marko (Chris), of Denver.

Naomi was born on June 29, 1938 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado to Willis and Ila Cash. She married Robert (Bob) Seymour, May 23, 1954. The couple eagerly welcomed six children into their home and set about building a large, close-knit family. We remember her as a selfless, compassionate, unconditionally loving, devoted and strong woman, who served others faithfully, without regard for herself.

Naomi was a self-taught master at sewing, knitting and crochet, always having needles in her hands, creating something special for someone. Our homes are filled with custom-made sweaters and warm, colorful afghans. She even made extras “just to have on hand”. Baby showers couldn’t happen often enough…she would spend weeks knitting hats, blankets and cute outfits.

She was a generous and dedicated woman who excelled at baking. She baked scrumptious gooey caramel nut and cinnamon rolls when someone was moving to a new home to sustain the crowd. She baked the most wonderful flaky fruit pies at holidays. Her warm cookies, coffee cakes and other delicious treats were her forte!

Children were her passion. She was joyfully employed at KinderCare where she loved the kids as her own, and they in-turn loved her. She set up a licensed home daycare, just because she loved caring for and entertaining kids. Someone once said she was a childcare genius! Tom made her a wagon, the size of a small vehicle, to take the kids on walks and outings.

Holiday celebrations were her favorite times. We will miss family gathering together and Christmas gifts overflowing in their home. Their house was decorated with little animated and musical Christmas villages and thoughtful handmade ornaments. She ensured everyone was included. If we knew someone who didn’t have a family to celebrate with, she would welcome them with open arms. There was room in Mom’s heart for all. She loved decorating the house for holidays, making popcorn balls at Halloween, filling and hiding plastic Easter eggs for the kids, baking scrumptious holiday pies, and having everyone together. When the day was finished, everyone went home with a basket of treats and trinkets.

Naomi endured a difficult life. She lost two children, Brenda, at birth, Valerie, at 37 and a great-grandson, Brady (18 months). She nursed Valerie through kidney disease and two kidney transplants (each donated by Tom and Vicki). She survived breast cancer, skin cancer, and precancerous hysterectomy. Through it all, she remained strong, never asking for help, never asking why, never a victim. She just accepted life as it came and did her best to move forward.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10:00 am at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. A Graveside Service will follow. Pastor Greg Jackson will officiate. We welcome all to share and celebrate Naomi’s life.
