Sammy Clark Owens was my Dad
If you needed his help you could call on him.  I really thought my Dad knew everything because there was nothing he could not do. He could fix a car, fly an air plane, refurbish our home, build a Dune Buggy and the list goes on. My Dad love to go places and have fun.  I have so many memories of places we traveled to as a family.  We went to Lake Shasta every summer and stayed on my grandparent houseboat (my Moms parents) with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. It was one big floating party.  The Cole family and our family where together a lot and a few places I remember the most; Lake Mead where we watered skied, fished and swam. My Dad liked the desert where we rode motor cycles and drove the Dune Buggy built by my dad.  One of my favorite places to be was by Winslow AZ. (Where my Dad was raised) where every summer we visit my Dads parents.  My grandparent, Durwood and Mildred Owens who have a cabin (which has been kept in the family) it is about 45 miles south of Winslow. The cabin holds some of my fondest childhood memories.  Time spent losing at Monopoly but gaining points playing Yahtzee! Listing to my granddads same jokes for the hundredth time.  Meals where all eaten together made by my Granny who was the best cook (besides my Mom!) after dinner the girls had to wash the dishes which, consisted of myself and my cousins (Joann, Sue and Debbie.) 
I remember my dad flying me to my grandparent when I was 12 years old.  When I was in Girls Scouts I sold the most cookies, which meant I could go to Girl Scout camp free. I was pretty proud of myself because I was shy and going door to door was nerve racking.  However, the week I was to go to camp I became very sick. My Dad told me when I felt better he would fly me to see my Granny and Granddad and he did.  Now he flies with no restraints and I have to believe he is with his beloved parents and my Aunt Lou Ann His sweet sister.  I love my dad.

Sam and I were Navy Shipmates beginning in 1960 in San Diego.  Our families grew close together as our children were best of friends.  For many years we partied, camped, and vacationed together.  Following our Navy Service we kept in touch and visited every time we were in close proximity.  Our relationship was more of a family than mere friends and speaking for ourselves and our children, Sam and the Owens family will remain will remain in our fondest memories.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam and the family at this tough time and will always be as our extended family.
Sammy, go in peace with Fair Winds and Following Seas.
