Adelaide Mawyer Desmond, 100, of Charlotte, NC passed away on June 9, 2019. Adelaide was born January 27, 1919, the second of seven children born to Clarence J. Mawyer Sr. and Inez Brown Mawyer of Albemarle County, VA.
Adelaide was a Realtor operating the Desmond Realty Co. for 30 years in Graham and Burlington N.C. prior to relocating to Charlotte in 1996 to be near her family after the death of her husband Emmett K. Desmond Jr.
Adelaide was preceded in death by five sisters Josephine McClure, Ethel Weakley, Nancy Spencer, Catherine Maupin and Phyllis Payne; brother Clarence J. Mawyer Jr.; many nieces and nephews and two nieces who are much like daughters,Brenda Croxton of Charlottesville Va. and Joan Seale of Barboursville, Va. She is survived by her daughter Jean D. Stafford; three grandson's Philip C. Stafford (Jennifer), William D. Stafford and Edward A. Stafford; two great grandchildren Morgan E. Stafford and Robert W. Stafford all of Charlotte, NC.
There will be a graveside service at Alamance Memorial Mausoleum Chapel in Burlington, NC for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Harvest Baptist Church, 3741 N. Church St. Burlington, N.C. 27215 where she was a member.
