Buddy was born in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late George W. Hedgpeth, Sr. and the late Deane Wolfe Hedgpeth. Buddy’s first wife, Diane Wood Hedgpeth, and his sister, Linda Hedgpeth Burns, also predeceased him.
Survivors include his son, Kevin Hedgpeth (Angela) of Hanahan, S.C.; his brother, Ken Hedgpeth of Charlotte; his stepdaughter, Lesley C. Crosby (Tripp) of Stanfield, N.C.; and his stepson, Jeff Caldwell (Tracy) of Blythewood, S.C. In addition, Buddy leaves behind his life-long special friend, Dr. Ruth Hedgpeth.
“Paw-Paw Buddy” loved his five grandchildren to the moon and back, and they all dearly loved him: Bryce Hedgpeth, Jaxon Hedgpeth, Alex Caldwell, Morgan Crosby and Matthew Crosby.
Buddy recently retired from a long and distinguished career as a highly respected accountant in Charlotte. He is missed by his hundreds of client-friends.
He was a 1963 graduate of Garinger High School and a 1968 graduate of UNC-Charlotte. Buddy was a true sports enthusiast; he enjoyed watching and following all sports. He was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan. If the Heels were playing, everyone knew that Buddy was watching!
In his youth, Buddy played Babe Ruth Baseball. He played first-base for the Charlotte team that went to the 1960 Babe Ruth World Series in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was also a member of the 1963 Garinger High School baseball team.
A service to celebrate Buddy’s life will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11:00am at Back Creek Church where he served as an elder and deacon for many years. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will greet guests after the burial service.
The Hedgpeth Family would like to thank Novant Health Cancer Specialists, Elliotte Manor, all the staff of Asbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for the love and compassionate care shown Buddy and his family during his journey.
